but there are some books that I have purchased after reading just to support the author mainly because I really like the book

I'm not really a five star giver. I read a lot of books and I seldom even give reviews. I'm liking this series because it is simple, but with a lot of story line for the different family members. However, my one complaint is the length of the books. I read a lot of books through Kindle Unlimited, but there are some books that I have purchased after reading just to support the author mainly because I really like the book.
Anyhoo, kudos to the author doing a great job with his first series.

It appears everyone in this family has a closet full of skeletons just waiting to come crashing down.Unfortunately, it's the people who love them that gets buried under all the lies. This book is very well researched, concise and packed with basic information on the Revolutionary war!

In the 1760s George III, king of England, held a fairly tight reign over the colonies even though many of the people living there had never seen nor set foot on British soil. The British parliament decided to implement taxes on them to raise money and in 1765 implemented the Stamp Act placing taxes on "newspapers and playing cards." In 1773, wanting even more money, decided they would place a tax on the popular drink, tea. Colonists were getting tired of this treatment because the "British government did little for them." Opposition began to stir.

Patriot groups began to form. Heroes the likes of John Hancock and Sam Adams formed the "Sons of Liberty," yet the British saw them as troublemakers and wanted to get rid of them. On December 16, 1773, the colonists dumped "342 chests of British tea into Boston Harbor." This Boston Tea Party given by the colonists ticked off George III and he dispatched soldiers to the colonies. In an effort to limit the "colonists' freedoms," they forbade them to hold elections and public meetings. The Quartering Act of 1774 meant that these soldiers could take up residence any where they pleased.

On April 14, 1775, British General Thomas Gage planned to arrest Hancock and Adams in Lexington, Massachusetts. Someone, perhaps Margaret Kemble Gage, told Dr. Joseph Warren about this plan. As a patriot he was spurred to action. Paul Revere was to ride from Lexington to Concord via the Charles River and by land. William Dawes, Jr. rode the whole route by land. The British were coming, but the colonists would try to stop them dead in their tracks. In this book you will read about how Hancock and Adams escaped and how the "badly outnumbered" 77 minutemen led by John Parker were the impetus for the colonists to fight the 700 redcoats who threatened the very freedom they came to America to receive.

This book is very well researched, concise and packed with basic information on the Revolutionary war. At the end of each chapter the question "What would you do?" is asked and a few possible solutions to the questions are set forth for the student to ponder. The following chapter tells what actually happened (no peeking!). The text is liberally illustrated with photographs, maps and art reproductions. In the back of the book is a timeline, words to know (printed in bold throughout the text), an index and additional recommended book and internet resources. This is one in a series of six "What Would You Do?" that shouldn't be passed up . . . history can be fun!

His Holiness Shantinand Saraswati was one of the wisest,most compassionate and humble teachers of the 20th century. Although lacking the publicity which attended many so called gurus this man was the real deal. Read this compilation and you'll see what I mean. His goodness and simplicity of expression which are indicative of an awakened mind and heart are abundantly evident. A genuine classic for serious seekers. Intriguing options for microsystems. Hampered by organizational weaknesses.

This is the most comprehensive DESCRIPTIVE book I have seen yet covering a very wide range of microsystems for acupuncture, some of which can also be used for diagnostic information as well. It has unfortunate shortcomings in organization and falls short of the publishers promise to have provided research-based evidence.

UNIT ONE
Defines the history of microsystems acupuncture, basics of the techniques and some fundamentals of point selection/combination. Also gives details on needling as it applies to these systems.

UNIT TWO
Gives pretty good black/white photos of 18 systems ranging from the better known scalp, ear, hand and mouth systems to the following: face, eye, nose, philtrum, tongue, neck, back shu, jia ji, spinal, chest, abdominal, foot, wrist and ankle, as well as holographic. Within each of these, there may be lesser known forms. For example, under scalp acupuncture, there is significant coverage of 2 of the most common types often called Chinese Scalp Acupuncture and Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture, but this text actually recognizes a total of 10 forms. When appropriate points in these systems are related to the underlying meridians and potential indications plus needling techniques are given. Unfortunately, there is no comparative data on relative effectiveness either between the scalp systems or scalp versus any of the other microsystems. The information given here is offered in a descriptive manner only. Vast panorama of options but little in the way of data to guide the practitioner toward what is most effective and when.

UNIT THREE
Takes 50 of the most common presenting problems and then offers for each one a clustering of several possible treatment protocols drawing from the relevant microsystems. Also for each problem, this is preceded by a TCM interpretation of the possible underlying mechanisms for the illness/ailment --but not much direct integration of TCM logic to guide selection between microsystem options or points. UNFORTUNATELY the biggest concern is in attempting to use this section at all. It is profoundly hampered by poor organization compared to the rest of the book.

The publisher's claim is that it is organized alphabetically. I am not sure what alphabet they mean, however. For example, it begins with Common Cold (Gan Mao), then Cough (Ke Sou), next Asthma (Xiao Chuan), Headache (Tou Tong) then Dizziness/Vertigo (Xuan Yun)and rambles around the remaining 45 conditions. Thus, neither English nor PinYin names are alphabetical; these are the only names supplied. To even approach this section, I will need to create my own table with page numbers. The problem is further compounded by the fact that it is even difficult to scan through the 50 problems, because the name of each is not particularly well-highlighted from the surrounding text.
(The publishers could use a bit of help from Deadman, Giovanni Maciocia or Joseph Helms !!!!)

UNIT FOUR
A brief section on therapeutic massage with good pictures. Could be helpful for supplementing acupuncture treatments in a limited manner.

S U M M A R Y

The book has potential and is fascinating in its extremely extensive compilation of microsystems. It needs much improved organization, though the publishers claim this is one of its best features aimed at making it useful in clinical practice. As it stands, one would be fumbling around far too long to be useable while clients are waiting. Likewise the backcover claims it is "researched-based with evidence behind the systems to ensure we are referencing the best information possible". However, I can't find or easily access any of that data -- either summarized under each microsystem or under the comparative treatment protocols. So far I've not found it at all. If present it is quite limited and hidden at best. There is a 1.5 page bibliography at the end. I guess we are left assuming that this is the evidence on which the remainder of the book is built -- but this is not annotated nor directly cross-referenced to the relevant sections of the text.

I am glad to have this as a part of my library, I think, but the price is excessive given what the reader is forced to contribute on their own in order to organize a practical entry into the treatment protocols and to accept the discrepancies between promises versus delivery, particularly regarding research-based evidence. It undoubtedly took a great deal of effort to compile such a broad range of material. I am grateful to the author. Yet, future editions will need to address the organizational deficits, provide correct referencing of sources, and include rather than allude to better evidence-based research. If not, subsequent textbooks will be needed to replace this one.

Addendum: I have now been using the text for several weeks. I continue to be very pleased with the breadth of information -- most recently with respect to the hand microsystems, particularly KHT. Coverage of the various options was reasonable and there were tables correlating the major points in KHT with their equivalent macro-meridian points. This information has been somewhat cumbersome to obtain otherwise, except perhaps in Nadar Soliman's texts and charts. I ultimately created my own expanded table of contents with better organization than the publisher provided. Now I can scan to see whether comparative treatments are offered for a given clinical problem. My appreciation of the text is growing.

Looks very promising but don't buy the Kindle edition.
First my praise for amazon to enable readers to download part of books on Kindle before buying.
Personally I so much prefer Kindle for study books as they can be searched.
This books looks very fascinating and clear, as far as I can judge fromthe rather big portion that Amazon allows to be sent to Kindle.
But I would not buy the Kindle edition unless you have the hardcover and you want it double.
The problem with many Kindle editions on Amazon is the UNREADABLE text form the pictures [the text FROM THE PICTURES hardly can be enlarged and the book become useless if the illustrations are an important part of the book and you want to read this of course.
I wrote Amazon about this before but for some reason they did not improve on this.
The other big improvement would be if Amazon would make a kind of PDF search possible and if search for "whole words" only would become a feature as well.

[if I am looking for the word "ear" I don't want to see all words like near,fear etc!!

Conclusion: seems to me a fascinating book but stay away fro the Kindle edition.

A Surprising Return for Phibes!

Vincent Price's two Dr. Phibes films are cult classics for their camp appeal, their stylish art deco sets, and their delightfully black humor. Robert Fuest's direction combined with the impressive production design, retro-camp scores, and stellar casting have made the films late period favorites among Classic Horror film buffs. 40 years later, there is still a devoted following with an avid Yahoo Group dedicated to the films, collectable soundtrack CD's of Basil Kirchan's and John Gale's original scores from Perseverance Records. Rumors of a new Phibes film from both major studios and indie talent crop up regularly. From that perspective, it is unsurprising that Phibes creator William Goldstein would choose to revisit his most famous property.

Along with co-authoring the original film and an early draft of its sequel, Goldstein also authored the two movie tie-in novels for Award Books in the early seventies. Both books are far more literate than most novelizations of the era as Goldstein took the time to not only add material that couldn't make it to the screen, but present Phibes in a more realistic and tragic light as his original screenplay had intended. It is this more serious take on Phibes that is represented in Goldstein's new novel. DR. PHIBES - IN THE BEGINNING serves as both a prequel and sequel to his two earlier books as the author weaves in and around his earlier stories to fill in the gaps and create a satisfying fabric from which future stories can be drawn. Those expecting the camp fun of the films may be disappointed. This is pure, unadulterated Phibes as his creator intended treated with the dignity this tragic character demands. For myself, I love equally both visions of the property. The films remain a special achievement and one that always makes me wish Vincent Price and Bob Fuest had continued the series. That, of course, is impossible. Happily, William Goldstein is alive and well and was able to expand his Phibes literary saga for all to enjoy.

Mr. Goldstein has ambitious plans for the property including reprints of the first two books and a fourth book due next year, but his plans require Phibes fans showing their support and interest. Hopefully, Mr. Goldstein will be getting the word out via genre magazines and horror conventions. Phibes' creator's take on the character is worthy of attention and respect and this book marks a welcome return for both creator and creation after far too many years.

A Disappointment for a Phibes Phan

I must confess to being very disappointed in this novel. Reading it was like reading a random list of ideas about a character but having no plan to arrange the random ideas into a story.
Having never read the first novelizations, I decided to read this first. That was a mistake, a thing I so rarely make.
Learn from my error, read the original novels first before this, if you choose to read it at all.
